Leadership Experience
- As Senior Project Consultant, Doug has worked directly with Superintendents and Directors of Business and Operations to proactively manage projects as an extension of their offices. He draws on his experience as an architect, owner and construction manager to ensure projects are executed to exceed clients’ expectations. He understands the importance of clear communication to earn clients’ trust and empower his leadership of large, complex project teams.
- As Senior Project Consultant, Doug works closely with Thompson Hine’s Chief of Facilities and Operations to review leases, assess potential office locations and manage the design and construction of office renovations. He understands that each partner is financially invested in the project outcomes and strives to meet expectations for excellence in design and construction.
- As Senior Project Consultant, Doug has facilitated multiple GMPs and partnering sessions for OFCC and other projects. He has participated in significant issue negotiations and settlements on behalf of multiple clients.
- As Director of Project Management at Tri-C, Doug oversaw program management teams, construction managers, architects, commissioning agents and testing agents, as well as fixtures, furnishings and equipment (FF&E), owner occupancy, prevailing wage compliance and major project and legal matters. He led the program management team during bidding, award and construction for more than $200 million in Phase One master plan execution, which included six buildings and multiple additional projects.
- Doug has designed or managed projects totaling more than $800 million under various delivery methods, including general contracting, multiple-prime, construction management (agency) and construction management at risk (CMR). Project types have ranged from minor renovations and deferred maintenance to campus master plans and major K-12 building programs. While at Tri-C, he managed the college’s first CMR and first LEED-certified projects.
Relevant Project Experience
Beachwood City School District
- Facilitated the district’s bond efforts to secure community support for capital funding. Total Elementary Building Program budget: $65 million.
- Bryden Elementary School – Provided owner’s representation services for the design and construction of a new pre-K through 2nd grade, 69,000-square-foot, $28.7 million (hard cost) school. Scope included abatement and demolition of the existing building and completion of final site work.
- Hilltop Elementary School – Provided owner’s representation services for the design and construction of a new 3rd through 5th grade, 65,000-square-foot, $29.1 million (hard cost) school. Scope included abatement and demolition of the existing building and final site work.
- Provided owner’s representation services for the high school fitness renovation and engineering/robotics facility addition.
Lorain County Community College – Master Plan Facilitation
- Provided owner’s representation services to develop a phased approach and oversee consultant selection and negotiation.
- Facilitated Phase 1 building assessment and utilization and the development of the campus master plan.
Holden Forests & Gardens Building Program
- Providing owner’s representation services for multiple projects at Holden Forests & Gardens and Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
- Holden Forests projects anticipated to include: Holden Center for Plant & Environmental Science, Visitor Center, Education Center and Events Pavilion.
- Cleveland Botanical Gardens projects anticipated to include: glasshouse renovations, interior renovations and gardens development.
- Estimated total project funding: $50 million.
Shaker Heights Bond Program Facilitation
- Facilitated the district bond efforts to secure community support for project funding.
Warrensville Heights City School District Building Program
- Segment 1 – New Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school: A two-story, 117,000-square-foot facility including 21 classrooms, music and art rooms, gym, student dining and kitchen. Designed around 21st-century learning concepts with learning pods for each grade level. Total budget: $33,774,000. Project completed $1,500,000 under budget.
- Segment 2 – New middle school/high school complex: Two-story middle school and three-story high school totaling 231,765 square feet. Construction occurred while the existing high school remained occupied. Design featured 21st-century learning concepts and physically connected the schools while minimizing student interaction between grade levels. Program also included demolition of five buildings and the construction of a new athletic complex and bus maintenance facility. Total budget: $76,595,560.
Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District Building Program
- Segment 1 – High school renovation and addition: Three-story renovation and addition, including a football stadium, natatorium, auditorium and ball fields. Total budget: $101,650,000.
- Segment 2 – Middle school renovations and enabling projects: Included renovation of Roxboro Middle School and Monticello Middle School, as well as developing temporary leased classrooms for the project duration. Total budget: $57,400,000. Segment 1 had initial cost overruns, but adjustments were made and the total program finished $3 million under budget.
Thompson Hine Office Renovations
- Dayton office renovation (2025): Interior renovation including carpet, painting, furniture and event space improvements.
- Minneapolis office build-out (2025): New office build-out.
- Washington, D.C. office (2025): Relocation and full build-out.
- Atlanta office renovation (2025): Renovation of client-facing areas and interior spaces, including office new carpet and updated technology.
- New York office (2025): Fit-out evaluation (2019) and relocation/build-out (2021).
- Chicago office (2020): New office build-out.
- Columbus office (2018): Renovation of client-facing spaces.
- Cincinnati office (2018): Interior and client-facing renovations, including carpet and technology upgrades.
